We had the opportunity to chat with Marshall Williams from the upcoming Disney Channel Original Movie “How To Build A Better Boy.”
Take a peek at our exclusive interview with him:
Can you tell us a little bit about yourself and your family.
I’m a Canadian actor from Winnipeg, Manitoba and grew up playing sports and music. I used to play football for the University of Manitoba and I play a few instruments but mostly enjoy singing. Most of my family, -my parents, sister, brother and grandparents, still live in Winnipeg and all do different things. Both my brother and dad are writers, my mom works in a hospital, my sister’s just starting high school and my grandparents have full time jobs keeping us all in line.
How did you get started in acting and what do you enjoy most about it?
I started acting when I was about 20 and got into it from modeling. Through Ford Models, I had been doing a lot of commercial auditions and found that I really enjoyed preforming. So, I enrolled in some acting classes and had the opportunity to sign with my current agent Doug Patterson. With Doug, I started auditioning for TV shows and movies, and after a little determination, began working. I always loved playing music for people and I find acting really similar to music. Its another avenue you can express yourself and be creative in different ways.
What can you tell us about your role in the upcoming DCOM “How To Build A Better Boy?”
In “How To Build A Better Boy” I play Albert Banks, a robotic super-soldier that Mae Hartley (Kelli Berglund) and Gabby Harrison (China McClain) inadvertently create who is macho, yet super sensitive. He’s the coolest and nicest guy that can do almost anything and be friends with everyone.
Can you share with us what it was like working with China Anne McClain, Kelli Berglund and the rest of the cast.
The whole cast and crew of “How To Build A Better Boy” were awesome to work with. Everyday was a blast on set and I couldn’t have dreamed of a better group of people to film with. China and Kelli are phenomenal actresses, both really sweet and wholesome girls.
What can you tell us about the filming location for this Disney Channel Original Movie.
We actually filmed the whole movie in Canada, mostly around Toronto and Hamilton. I’ve lived in Toronto for a few years now, so it was great to be shooting at home and working with a lot of familiar faces. I think the whole cast had a lot of fun because for most of them it was their first time in Canada.
Did you watch Disney Channel while you were growing up? If so, what was your favorite show?
I watched a ton of Disney Channel when I was growing up. Lizzie McGuire, Recess and Aladdin were some of my favourites along with the movies The Little Mermaid and Bambi when I was younger.
If you could pick anyone past or present to work with, who would it be and why?
If I was to pick someone right now, I would have to go with Dwayne Johnson. I don’t think you can find a cooler, more charismatic guy than ‘The Rock’. He’d be a great guy to learn from and since both our NFL teams the Dolphins we’d have a lot to talk about.
What do you like to do in your time off from acting?
When I’m not acting, I play a lot music, read, workout, and try to do as many outdoorsy/athletic things as I can. I’m only a few classes short of finishing my psychology degree as well, so if work allows, I’m usually in a class or two.
Do you have any other projects that you can tell us about?
There are a few projects in the mix but I can’t share any details right now. Hopefully I’ll be able to let everyone know about some projects coming up this year shortly.
