Walt Disney World today has been experimenting with a “Return Time Ticket” style of card for the popular “Anna and Elsa” meet and greet at Magic Kingdom’s Princess Fairytale Hall. They must be happy with the results as they have started using a similar approach with their popular Soarin’ attraction at EPCOT. To say the ride is popular might be an understatement with wait times often exceeding two hours. We’ve been hearing rumors of a 3rd screen for the attraction, and in the meantime, Disney seems they are trying out the return time system to keep the wait times as small as possible.
If you have had a chance to use the new Fastpass+ reservations system for Soarin’, it will continue to operate as expected. However, if you are in the standby queue, and the queue reaches a certain point, the cast members will no longer allow you to enter the area and will issue a card with an assigned return time. When your return time arrives, you’ll go into the standby queue which should be much shorter than your original attempt. It’s kind of similar to the old FastPass system, and it must be working quite well as this is now the 3rd area Disney is using it at Walt Disney World: the aforementioned Anna and Elsa greeting, Frozen Summer at Hollywood Studios and now Soarin’. Seems like a very good idea for those that want to see some of the popular attractions and we hope it will continue to expand around the parks.
