Walt Disney Studios and Marvel Studios have provided us with this image that gives the first look at Paul Rudd as reformed thief Scott Lang in Marvel’s Ant-Man (July 17, 2015), which has just started filming in San Francisco. If you are unfamiliar with the comic background story of Ant-Man, Biophysicist and Security Operations Center expert Dr. Henry “Hank” Pym makes a discovery of a chemical called Pym Particles, which allows him to alter his size. He decides to become a superhero after discovering the substance, and armed with a helmet that could control ants, he would shrink down to the size of an insect and become the mystery-solving Ant-Man. He eventually shared his discovery with Janet Van Dyne, who was his girlfriend, and she became his crime-fighting partner with the name of the Wasp. Interestingly, they were actually the founding members of the Avengers.

For the movie, we know that it will involve con-man Scott Lang (seen in the photo above) helping his mentor Dr. Hank Pym (Michael Douglas) protecting the secret behind the amazing Ant-Man suit from threats. The two must plan and pull off a heist that will save the world. Besides Paul Rudd and Michael Douglas, another character that was announced is Evangeline Lilly as Hope Van Dyne, daughter of Hank Pym; and additional cast members Corey Stoll, Bobby Cannavale, Michael Peña, Abby Ryder Fortson, Judy Greer, David Dastmalchian, Wood Harris, John Slattery, Gregg Turkington and T.I.

While not my favorite comic books, they are certainly interesting and tie in nicely to the rest of the Marvel Universe. It will be interesting to see if Marvel, like they did with Guardians of the Galaxy, can once again hit a home run with a lesser known character. With all of the momentum they have, I don’t see why it won’t be possible.
