The largest expansion of a themed land in Disney history has been officially announced at the D23 Expo on Saturday in Anaheim by Disney CEO Robert Iger. Dubbed “Star Wars Land,” this oft-speculated expansion is now officially coming to Disney’s Hollywood Studios. The area was announced as a 14-acre expansion and will occur at both Disney’s Hollywood Studios in Orlando and at Disneyland in California.
“It will be the first time that our guests will truly be emerged in the world that is Star Wars,” Iger said, before adding, “These new lands at Disneyland and Walt Disney World will transport guests to a whole new Star Wars planet, including an epic Star Wars adventure that puts you in the middle of a climactic battle between the First Order and the Resistance.” Those last references are related to the the “new good guys and bad guys” that are featured in the upcoming “Star Wars Episode VII: The Force Awakens.”
Each land will have two new “signature” attractions. Along with the aforementioned climactic battle, there is said to be one that will put guests in the cockpit of the Millennium Falcon. We’re hoping that some additional information might be passed around later today at the D23 Expo as there’s a full theme park panel later today, so there’s a chance that we could see some additional information later today on this or other theme park news.
Yay!!! Exciting!!!! 🙂
