Review: “Lego Star Wars: The New Yoda Chronicles” DVD

LSWTNYC

Lego Star Wars: The New Yoda Chronicles will be out on DVD tomorrow. It’s a compilation of four episodes that first aired on Disney XD along with a few extra bonuses. If you have ever seen other Lego animated shows or movies, you’ll know that they are filled with a variety of family fun. These Star Wars episodes come in at a bit over 90 minutes of viewing time. There are a variety of great jokes that everyone in your family can enjoy, and there are absolutely no worries about anything inappropriate with it. The episodes are also filled with the Star Wars characters that you know and love from the prequels and the original trilogy including Vader, Han, Chewy, Luke and Leia to name a few of them.

The names of the four episodes are “Escape From The Jedi Temple,” “Race For The Holocrons,” “Raid on Coruscant” and “Clash of the Skywalkers.” There is an overall story in the four episodes which are basically about the characters trying to obtain one thing: Holocrons. There is a flashback to the prequels that details why the Holocrons are so important — they contain extremely important information that is vital to Luke Skywalker as he continues his Jedi training. You’ll immediately notice some of the humor I previously mention. As an example, Qui-Gon mentions that he has a certain set of skills which happens to include opening a pickle jar. It’s funny on a number of levels, and I’m sure I’m not detailing it well enough here, but those types of scenes make this series worthwhile. Another example I really enjoyed was seeing Darth Vader stealing the Millennium Falcon. It’s just as funny as it sounds, and there are a variety of jokes about a number of movies from the 80’s and 90’s. Parents will enjoy many of them as much or more than their children. There are some very funny references to Star Wars as it makes fun of some of its own as well. I’ll mention again that the single best part of these episodes are the jokes and overall humor.

Star Wars: Rebels Season 1 was recently released on DVD and Blu-ray and we really liked it (see review here). This Lego Star Wars release has an entirely different feel as it has much more humor. Outside of the four episodes that are included on the DVD, there is a single Bonus Scene as well as some sneak peeks. The bonus scene is an alternative-ending to the “Clash of the Skywalkers” episode. It’s very cool and the sneak peeks include some of the home movie releases that Disney has coming soon. It’s another great Star Wars DVD that you can add to your collection.
