When we heard about Sabrina Carpenter and Sofia Carson starring in a new DCOM together in early January 2015, there was so much excitement around it! Sabrina stars as Maya Hart in Disney Channel’s Girl Meets World, and Miss Sofia just came off of her hit Disney Channel Original Movie Descendants. The two seemed a perfect fit for their new roles in Adventures in Babysitting (previously called Further Adventures in Babysitting), which was inspired by the popular film from the 1980’s by the same name. It just so happened to be the 100th DCOM too! Cool!
Joining Sabrina and Sofia were Nikki Hahn as introverted teen Emily Cooper, Mallory James Mahoney as young fashionista Katy Cooper, Max Gecowets as the rebellious Trey Anderson, Jet Jurgensmeyer as chef wunderkind Bobby Anderson, Madison Horcher as roller derby fanatic Alison “AJ” Anderson and Kevin Quinn (BUNK’D) as Jenny’s crush Zac Chas, and they all played their parts extremely well.
The storyline follows Jenny Parker (Sabrina) and Lola Perez (Sofia) as the two girls bump into each other at an interview for an internship that they are both interested in. The two have such different personalities – Jenny being a very responsible and put together young woman and Lola is a little more carefree. They don’t hit it off so well, and after then a literal bumping into each other, the two drop their phones, and they end up getting them switched. Jenny has had to turn down a babysitting job because she is already committed to another family – the Coopers – on the same night. But, after Lola answers Jenny’s phone when the Anderson family called back as they were still in need of someone to watch their kids, and wanting to make some extra cash, she pretends to be Jenny and recommends the job for herself. And let’s just say that Lola has a lot to learn about babysitting! So the adventure begins.
That is all I will get into by the way of the actual events of the movies. I will just say that a whole night of wild and wackiness ensues as they watch over the two family’s kids. There is chaos and disaster as they head out in search for Trey, who has chosen to sneak out of his house to go to a concert. They come in contact with some sketchy characters (kind of felt a little like the two bad guys from Home Alone) and have to try and evade them. In the end, the babysitters come together to resolve the issues. They started out as not understanding each other, to becoming good friends and learning from each other. Each child has learned something about themselves individually too.
It is a super cute comedy/drama film that everyone in the whole family will enjoy. We loved it! Owning the DVD would give you the opportunity to play it as often as you like, and I feel that it is a movie that you will want to watch over and over again. Great acting, great action scenes, some lessons about life in general, and it all was done in a fun way!
