I was really excited to hear that there was going to be a sequel to the DCOM Descendants! The news was revealed in October 2015 after Descendants received such a great reaction by fans. I enjoyed the original movie, and looked forward to Descendants 2. With Dove Cameron, Sofia Carson, Cameron Boyce and more as leads in this Disney Channel Original Movie, I already knew it would be a hit! And, I was super happy to hear that Miss China Anne McClain was joining the cast!

There are a lot of familiar faces from Descendants who reprised their roles. They consisted of Dove Cameron (Liv and Maddie) as Mal; Cameron Boyce (Gamer’s Guide to Pretty Much Everything and Jessie) as Carlos; Booboo Stewart (X-Men Days of Future Past) as Jay; Sofia Carson (Adventures in Babysitting) as Evie; Mitchell Hope as Ben; Brenna D’Amico as Jane; Melanie Paxson as Fairy Godmother; Dianne Doan as Lonnie,
the daughter of Mulan; Jedidiah Goodacre as Chad, the son of Cinderella; Zachary Gibson as Doug, the son of Dopey; Keegan Connor Tracy as Belle; Dan Payne as Beast. New to Descendants 2 was China Anne McClain (A.N.T. Farm) as Uma, the daughter of Ursula from The Little Mermaid, Dylan Playfair as Gil, son of Gaston and Thomas Doherty (The Lodge) as Harry, son to Captain Hook.

The storyline follows Mal, who feels the pressure to be so perfect in her royal position. Feeling overwhelmed, Mal has decided to return to her rotten roots on the Isle of the Lost. Mal’s archenemy Uma has taken her spot as the self-proclaimed queen of the run-down town. Uma is very resentful for not being selected by Ben to go to Auradon Prep with the other Villain Kids. She encourages her pirate gang to break the barrier between the Isle of the Lost and Auradon, and unleash all the villains imprisoned there. Carlos, Jay, Evie and Ben head to the island to persuade Mal to go back with them to Auradon. Mal has to look inside herself and figure out where she wants to be.

In my opinion, there are some really great sword fighting scenes that take place on the Isle of the Lost, and I personally loved all of the musical numbers. Descendants had some good choreographed dance scenes, and this did as well! The music (see the details on the soundtrack here) for this DCOM was so great too with some really catchy songs. I felt that the addition of China Anne to the cast was WONDERFUL! Miss China is a really great actress, and I enjoyed her portrayal of Uma. Descendants 2 is a super cute drama/action-packed movie that is a great for the whole family. I felt that the movie gave an overall feeling of being yourself.

Owning the DVD would give you the opportunity to play it as often as you like. You will find some cool bonus features with this DVD, including bloopers, a deleted song, cast chatting about personal secrets and more. Descendants 2 will be releasing tomorrow (August 15, 2017)!
