Teen Game Review: “Toy Story Mania!”
Join Woody, Buzz and the rest of the toys in this Xbox 360 and PS3 release of “Toy Story Mania!” which is a game that was inspired by Disney/Pixar’s “Toy Story” and the exciting 4D Toy Story Mania! attractions at Disney California Adventure and Walt Disney World.
I played “Toy Story Mania!” with my parents to see what they thought of the game. As it supports Kinect for Xbox 360 and the PlayStation Move for PS3, I thought it would make for some interesting challenges between us, and I was right. My mom is not a big gamer, but she really enjoyed how easy the game was to play and that she could just jump right in. Space Frontier is one of the levels (booths as they call it in this game) that she loved, and she mentioned how much it reminded her of the ride at Walt Disney World’s Hollywood Studios, which happens to be one of her favorites. In one part of each level, there are virtual pies being thrown at you, and she enjoyed trying to dodge them. This is the type of unique twist that separates the gameplay from the rides. My dad seemed to like the game as well, but he spent a great deal of time tinkering around with the Kinect controls to see if he could tweak them to make the game easier.
“Toy Story Mania!” Game Trailer (Wii Version but Xbox 360 and PS3 versions are similar)
Besides playing with your friends or family as I did, you can also play by yourself in 30 fast-paced shooting galleries. Some of these are from the ride at the theme parks that we mentioned above, and others are completely new experiences made just for this game. Inside the galleries, you will find exciting gameplay and power-ups to enhance your overall experience and replay-ability There are 5 themed booths to choose from including Army Men Challenge, Balloon Garden, Animals & Friends, Space Frontier, and Wild West. The Kinect and PlayStation Move are really cool and fit this game very well. It’s OK with just a controller, but it’s amazing with the other type of input devices. I think it would be a great game for your whole family to enjoy.
