Disney Chairman and CEO Bob Iger, in an interview with CNBC, has confirmed plans for standalone Star Wars films which is certainly very exciting news for fans of the series. The interview added a great amount of fuel to the rumors, which were coming in from a variety of sources, that LucasFilm and Disney were planning to build the first standalone Star Wars film around Yoda. The rumor was the latest in a series, and when it was learned that screenwriter Simon Kinberg and Lawrence Kasdan were writing standalone films as part of the Star Wars line, it quickly gained additional steam.
Iger does not confirm any specific characters, and specifically mentions that he will leave it to Kathleen Kennedy and the LucasFilm team to reveal details of the films when they’re ready to do so. Along with Yoda, other characters such as Boba Fett come to mind as possible directions for stories.
