EXCLUSIVE: Mimi Kirkland Talked With Us About Working On “Austin & Ally” February 2015

We had the absolute pleasure of interviewing Mimi Kirkland who plays Lily on Disney Channel’s hit series “Austin & Ally.”

Miss Mimi spoke with us about being on the show, how she reacted to landing the role and much more.

Take a peek:

Dis411: Can you tell us a little bit about yourself and your family?

Mimi: I’m a 4th grader and I love to eat cheeseburgers. I live with my mom, dad, two sisters and our dog, Sami. I’m the middle child. I’m ambidextrous and I love to color, paint and listen to music. We split our time throughout the year living in Raleigh, North Carolina and Los Angeles.

Dis411: How did you get started in acting and what do you enjoy most about it?

Mimi: When I was on stage at my preschool graduation, the teacher asked me what I wanted to be when I grow up. I said I wanted to be an actress so my parents found an agent in Raleigh, NC. I started doing commercials and then I was cast as ‘Lexie’ in the movie “Safe Haven” starring Josh Duhamel and Julianne Hough. I like pretending to be different characters, wearing costumes and trying different hairstyles.

Dis411: What can you tell us about your role in “Austin & Ally?”

Mimi: In Season 4 of Austin & Ally, I play an energetic, easily excited, spunky little girl named Lily. She is interested in taking music lessons only because she is an “Ally fan” and wants to spend time with Ally. Ally motivates Lily to want to learn more about music. This inspires Ally to turn the Sonic Boom, her dad’s music store, into the A&A Music Factory where Austin & Ally teach other kids about music, how to play different instruments and perform on stage.

Dis411: How did you react when you found out you would be working on this Disney Channel show?

Mimi: It was my 10th birthday and I got the call that I would be playing Lily on “Austin & Ally”. I started screaming and jumping for joy!! It was the best birthday ever!! I have seen every Austin & Ally episode so it was a dream come true to find out I would be working and acting with them.

Dis411: Can you share with us what it was like working with Ross Lynch, Calum Worthy, Raini Rodriguez and Laura Marano?

Mimi: I loved working with Ross, Calum, Raini & Laura on set. They are all very nice, funny, cool and friendly. We ate lunch together so we could go over our scenes and we shared a few funny little jokes on set. They were really fun and easy to work with and made me feel like part of the group!

Dis411: Do you have a fun behind the scenes moment that you can share about working on this series?

Mimi: When we were doing the accordion/concertina scene in my second episode, Raini was supposed to come over and help me break the accordion/concertina, but I started playing it and it broke while I was holding it, which is what it was supposed to do, but not at that time. When I ripped it in half, accidentally, everyone laughed. When they replaced the prop and Raini was supposed to rip it in half, it wouldn’t rip and we had to keep redoing the scene until it broke at the right time.

Dis411: What do you like to do in your time off from acting?

Mimi: I like playing outside, swimming, riding my bike, dancing and playing with my friends and my sisters.

Dis411: Do you have any other projects that you can tell us about?

Mimi: Yes! I am also a regular on a TNT show called “Murder in the First” and play a character named Louise Mulligan. We are filming Season 2 this spring and it will be airing this summer.
