The Nintendo Lounge returned for a third year on the TV Guide Magazine Yacht at Comic-Con 2015. The lounge has had an action packed first two days with a slew of celebrities, including Vanessa Hudgens, Norman Reedus, Gene Simmons, Alexander Ludwig, Chris Parnell, Tyler Posey, Dylan O’Brien, Holland Roden, Nolan Gould, am ongst others, receiving the ultimate VIP gaming experience. Each had hands-on time with two yet-to-be-released titles – Super Mario Maker for Wii U and The Legend of Z elda: Tri Force Heroes for Nintendo 3DS. Guests also got the chance to celebrate the 30th anniversary of Super Mario Bros. by playing classic games available on the Virtual Console for Nintendo 3DS and professing their love of Super Mario Bros. at our video station with red Mario hats and mustaches.
Vanessa Hudgens stopped by to support boyfriend Austin Butler with his cast from MTV’s upcoming show “The Shannara Chronicles.” While she waited for the cast to finish their interviews, she wondered over to the Nintendo area to take a turn on Super Mario Maker. Nolan Gould made a point to stop by the yacht to check out Nintendo’s offerings. He and his friend threw on some mustaches and went to the video station to wish Super Mario Bros. a very happy 30th anniversary.
“Teen Wolf” stars Dylan O’Brien, Tyler Posey and Holland Roden immediately gravitated towards the Nintendo area curious to find out this year’s offerings. Each took a turn trying new levels on Super Mario Maker, and their enthusiasm was contagious with Shelley Henning, Dylan Sprayberry, and new cast member Cody Christian following suit. “Robot Chicken” voice actress Clare Grant recorded a sweet 30th anniversary message in the video booth before demonstrating her skills on Super Mario Maker, leaving husband Seth Green to watch in amazement at his multitalented wife.
“Archer” voice actor Chris Parnell was engrossed in Super Mario Maker while comedian Aisha Tyler looked on in amazement. Upon their arrival, the cast of “Vikings” immediately bounded onto the boat and over to Nintendo. Alexander Ludwig stepped up to play Super Mario Maker for Wii U and pulled his co-star Travis Fimmel over for moral support as he made his way through a difficult level.
The cast of “The Originals” boarded the yacht late in the afternoon, making it the perfect time for them to kick back and have some fun. Joseph Morgan and Daniel Gillies ventured over to test their skills on Wii U and teased each other about who was a better player. Eddie Kaye Thomas of “Scorpion” was quickly intrigued when he saw staff playing the game and walked over to take a turn. He jokingly requested a trial on the easiest level since his gaming skills were somewhat rusty.
Day 3 of the Nintendo Lounge on the TV Guide Magazine Yacht wrapped with a smash – a Super Smash that is. Celebrity attendees included Matt Bomer, Ginnifer Goodwin, Josh Dallas, Jennifer Morrison, Jaimie Alexander, Will Forte, Jeremy Jordan, Shane West, Ashley Madekwe, Ike Barinholtz, Taran Killiam, Brandon Routh and Ryan Guzman, among others.
The “Once Upon a Time” cast kicked off the day bright and early, with Ginnifer Goodwin watching on and laughing as husband Josh Dallas gave Super Mario Maker for Wii U a whirl. Matt Bomer of “American Horror Story” and Magic Mike XXL also bolted toward the Nintendo area and said how much he’d love to play at home with his three boys.
Jaimie Alexander recorded a 30th anniversary message for Super Mario Bros. at the video booth before trying her luck at Super Mario Maker. Jaimie shares a love of gaming with fiancé Peter Facinelli, another Nintendo fan.
Shane West mingled at the Nintendo lounge and caught up with good friend and Nintendo enthusiast Scott Porter, who happened to be at the convention this weekend purely as a fan. In addition to her obvious affinity for fashion, Ashley Madekwe is also a self proclaimed nerd and gamer, which was apparent when she gushed over Nintendo. After her interview she sprinted to a Wii U station and latched on to a GamePad to enjoy some rounds on Super Mario Maker.
Ike Barinholtz and Taran Killiam also tested their skills on Wii U, though Taran admitted his free game time has been more limited in recent years since he and wife Cobie Smulders have two little ones to look after. Connor Weil from MTV’s new show “Scream” had a blast playing The Legend of Zelda: Tri Force Heroes for Nintendo 3DS with castmate John Karina.
Previous attendees from Day 1 and Day 2 included Vanessa Hudgens, Tyler Posey, Dylan O’Brien, Holland Roden, Norman Reedus, Megan Good, Wilmer Valderrama, Joseph Morgan, Danielle Gillies, Pheobe Tonkin, Sophie Turner, Seth Green, Clare Grant, Gene Simmons, Eddie Kaye Thomas, Olesya Rulin, James Wolk, Jake McDorman, Aisha Tyler, Chris Parnell, Alexander Ludwig, Ian Ziering, Tara Reid, Cassie Scerbo, Ari Miller, Dylan Bruce, Kristen Schaal, Isaiah Washington and many more.
