World’s Fastest Wooden Coaster Coming to Dollywood in 2016

Over the past few years, Dollywood has made some great additions to the theme park including the recently opened DreamMore resort. In 2016, they will make their largest investment yet, a $22 million dollar wooden coaster inspired by a 1950’s hot rod. Dolly Parton was on had at the park this morning for the announcement of the new coaster called the Lightning Rod. While she was very impressed with the ride, she was also quick to point out that you wouldn’t be catching her on the ride anytime soon, “I”m not riding that thing! I’ve got too much to lose — like my hair!”

One of our favorite things about the Dollywood additions are the speed at which they deliver on them. It seems that many parks love to announce rides years in advance, but Dollywood makes an announcement, and in several months, the ride is ready for visitors. This is again the case with the Lightning Rod, which will be opening in March of 2016. The ride has some very impressive stats beginning with a 1500 horsepower engine that will launch riders 20 stories high out of the gate and they’ll make there way through the rest of the ride at an incredible 73 mph. It will be the world’s first wood launch roller coaster and the fastest wooden roller coaster.

We can’t wait to try this one for ourselves!
