Review: “Mickey And The Roadster Racers” DVD

Mickey Mouse Clubhouse was a long running and very popular Disney Junior series. It ran for 10 years and was the first computer animated series developed by Disney for television. Mickey and the Roadster Racers is the successor to Mickey Mouse Clubhouse and made it’s debut on Disney Junior on January 15, 2017. The show is centered on Mickey, Minnie, Goofy, Donald, Daisy and Pluto (they are known the Sensational Six) and their races.

Like Mickey Mouse Clubhouse, each of the Mickey and the Roadster Racers episodes consist of two separate stories. The DVD contains 3 separate episodes, so you’re really getting six stories. There are also a couple of additional Bonus Episodes, a couple of music videos and a nice physical bonus where your child can create their own personalized license plate. It’s a nice little add-on that I’m sure your kids will really love!

The episodes on this DVD begin with the start of the series, so if your kids have not yet watched any of them, they’ll be starting at the very beginning. The first part of episode one is called “Mickey’s Wild Tire!.” It’s about racing legend Jiminy Johnson (voiced by racing legend Jimmie Johnson — that’s another theme of the series as many real racing legends lend their voices to characters on the series). The second episode is “Sittin’ Kitty” which is about Daisy and Minnie’s babysitting job that turns out to be a little more than they had prepared for.

The second episode begins with “Goofy Gas!,” and like the name kinda hints at, Goofy has created a new fuel that makes the cars go much faster. The last part of the episode (“Little Big Ape”) involves Clarabelle Cow and a gorilla that’s on the loose. I would like to take a moment here to commend Disney for bringing characters like Clarabelle to a new generation of fans. She was created by Disney legend Ub Iwerks and Wilt Disney himself in 1928 and has made appearances in parades and meet-and-greets at Disney theme parks, and even in a few videos games. I absolutely love the history with these types of characters. I hope we get to see even more of these types of characters with future episodes! The final episode on the DVD starts with “Race for the Rigatoni Ribbon!” In it, Pete is leading a road race in Rome with the Sensational Six trying to catch him. The second portion of the episode is called “Roaming Around Rome,” and they help out by giving a travel writer a tour around Rome.

As I already mentioned, there are a couple of bonus stories which begin with “Mickey’s Perfecto Day.” In it, Mickey’s “perfect” day is not really so perfect. The final story is “Running of the Roadsters!” There are also a couple of music videos “Mickey and the Roadster Racers Theme Song” and “Happy Helpers Theme Song.’ Each of the videos contains music with clips from the series.

I highly recommend Mickey and the Roadster Racers and the DVD is really excellent. One of the great things about Disney Junior shows is that they are not really just mind numbing computer animation. In Mickey and the Roadster Racers, each of the episodes have common themes about things like working together, so it’s not just entertainment. Kids also really get some good lessons as well. The DVD gives you eight great stories and a nice physical bonus as well! Take a look at a couple of great clips from the series below. Get a copy of Mickey and the Roadster Racers now!
